We decided we would try & find a pub in Eling, very pretty little place & not far to drive from Southampton. Chose The Village Bells for no particular reason, the 3 pubs there that we saw all looked of a very similar standard.
There was a very charming young lady behind the bar who, because they weren't busy, ended up giving us table service which was very welcome. She was full of enthusiasm for the place as her Auntie has just taken it over. Plans for improvement are in progress & it certainly could do with a major face lift!

There was a
reasonably varied menu & about 3 daily specials on a chalk
board. I chose one of them, the cottage pie (pic on far left),
one of my friends had lasagna & the other vegetarian lasagna. We
all requested salad (which was fresh & plentiful) because the standard
accompaniment to all these dishes was new potatoes & vegetables, none
of us felt we needed potatoes with our choices! The cottage pie
& the lasagnas were very tasty & obviously home made. We had
one bottle of wine, a couple more drinks & coffees and best of all a
really long gossip!
