Revisited September 2004
Had a wonderful evening here, 12 of us for a B'day party. We had three choices at each course, I have pictured mine.......
| I neglected my duty as I
forgot to bring the menu home, told you I had a good time, consequently I
have forgotten the finer details of the dishes so please forgive lack of
description!
I started with a Crab, Chili & Ginger Gazpacho which was so unusual that I had to clean the dish with one of the delicious bread rolls we were offered. Next I had a very creamy Risotto & finished with this pretty concoction on the left! We were all delighted with our choices, everything beautifully presented. Very friendly efficient staff. Food was £25 a head, our host generously treated us to the copious amounts of wine! Yummy Factor now upgraded to 9/10 Report CJ & would like to add, lucky Romsey, they have so many good eateries! |
Revisited December 2003
It is now under new management since our last visit. We were told it was very minimalist & like a wine bar, still looks like a traditional pub to me but with not much stuff on the walls! There were 14 of us for an after Christmas get together. Very friendly service, good atmosphere helped by the roaring fire. They didn't seem to mind that we were still there at 5.0pm so I presume they are open all day.
The food was still really good & still good value. We all ate from the £15 for 3 courses, or £10 for 2 courses menu. Starters, Watercress Soup, Smoked Salmon, Walnut & Stilton Salad. Mains, Roast Beef, Plaice Fillets, or Breast of Pheasant. Desserts, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Prune & Armagnac Parfait & Chocolate Tart with Mascarpone. Between us we had all of these dishes & they were all plentiful portions, well presented, & delicious.
With several bottles of wine,

Once again greatly enjoyed our food at this lovely "oldie world" pub in Romsey. Have eaten here several times both at lunch time & in the evening. The food has always been delicious & excellent value for money as the portions are always generous. Today most of us had roast pork, crackling, crunchy roast potatoes & fresh vegetables. My mouth is watering at the thought of it, why bother to cook when this standard is available for only £7.95. Once, when I was there for dinner, I had a mountain of very tender pork fillet for a similar price. I also remember having strawberries & cream in a brandy snap basket for only £3.25. We didn't have puddings today we were too full but we did have coffee which was constantly topped up. This is a really nice touch but I am not sure if it is normal practice because we were there with a real regular of the pub, it may have been for his benefit! We were all drinking different things so cost worked out at,

| The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head ) |
