Revisted May 2005

We visited the above on the evening of 12th May and can report that the Staff were welcoming and polite.  It was very busy so always book in advance.  The food was good value with a set menu and an a la carte.  All enjoyed and served by a very friendly waitress.  £17 per head including wine and coffee.

Yummy Factor Upgraded to 8/10

Visited early April 2002.

Went for lunch on a Friday, (weather good enough to sit in the garden!) & again in the evening the following week.  Would have awarded a higher yummy factor if the service had been better during the evening visit.

Lunch time, you pay for food at the bar & it's then served to your table, normal pub routine.  In the evening  there's table service but not enough staff when we were there!  It took us ages to catch the waitresses attention just to ask what the daily specials were.  After the meal they didn't have time to ask if we wanted coffee & it took ages to get the bill.  Not the waitresses fault, they needed more help, it was very busy.  Suggest booking for the evening.

We were looking forward to seeing what has happened to The Clump since it's take over by  Out & Out.  We were so pleased with the pub of theirs, The Brampton Mill, we ate at in Cambridgeshire that we gave it a Smiley & 9/10!  We were not disappointed with the food , except for one dish, it was excellent!  Loved the  decor.  They obviously do all their restaurants in the same style which is creating lots of small differently coloured eating areas to give a more intimate feel to quite a large area.

At lunch, we chose, Chicken pakora salad, pieces of chicken marinated in Eastern spices, served with fresh mixed leaf salad & roasted vegetable salad, delicious, Rib eye steak, very tender and cooked as requested, served with chips, roasted tomatoes & grilled field mushroom  & Thai green chicken curry, very hot as requested, served on a bed of coconut rice with herb bread.

Dinner, starters, Vegetable samosas with home made minted cucumber, lime & sour cream dip, Tomato & basil soup, Blanchbait, tender small white fish in a lemon pepper coating and Crispy cheese and bacon potato shells, all full of unusual flavours!  Main courses, Scottish salmon fillet with lemon pepper, fresh dill & cream sauce, & crushed new potatoes, 2 had the Minted rack of lamb in red wine & fresh rosemary sauce, again served with crushed new potatoes.  Everything was delicious except for my choice which was Fillet of pork in wholegrain mustard sauce and sauté potatoes.  The sauce & potatoes were lovely but the pork was very dry, shame!

We had a disappointing bottle of Deakin Estate Columbard and various drinks so ,

Cost £ £ £ £

Yummy Factor 7/10, but only because of the evening service & will definitely go again!

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
