We chose to visit this establishment as
it was convenient for the friends I was dining with and as our last
review was in 2001 it was certainly due for an update!
Our visit started off well with the usual G & T's nicely served by a friendly waitress. We ordered our food from a very large menu which always worries me, how can everything be fresh?.
Starter choices were one portion of Mexican Nachos to share @ £5.25 and one portion of Breads with Olives @ £3.95. Nachos OK but the Bread was supposed to be mixed ciabatta but we only had one type albeit very fresh. Our main courses were disappointing - 2 chose the Trio of Fish (tuna, salmon & swordfish) with salad and new potatoes. £10.95. The salmon was OK but the other fish very dry and needed a lot of mayo to help it down! I had a Chicken Sizzler on a skillet with tortillas etc. - overcooked small pieces of chicken and not much of it! Last choice was Fillets of Sea Bass, £12.95, it was the best choice. We managed 2 bottles of a very good Chilean Merlot @ £10.95 each and a couple of coffees. No puddings, but once again a large choice.
When it came to paying the bill we had
to wait for sometime to find somebody to take our money; the
waitress had disappeared and together with another table of people,
we were wondering whether to walk out!!!!
Sadly our up to date markings reflect a
big decline in the quality of food and service since our last visit.
Cost £ £ £ £ £ & the best part was the wine!!

The Bold Forester was refurbished about 3 years ago and now has a good reputation for it's food. Proof of this is that you have to book several weeks in advance for a Saturday night! No problem for lunch times. I have eaten here on several occasions and always been very pleased. The portions are generous and the prices very reasonable. Lunch time sandwiches are huge & delicious door steps! One of those and a glass of the excellent house white only.....
Cost £
There is a large rear garden with seating for sunny days!
Yummy factor 8/10

| The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head ) |
