The Tenth Hole Tea Rooms ( at The Golf
Links)
Eastern Parade Southsea 023 92830009 |
Visited June 2004 Revisited July 2004
What a find! A friend took me here at the start of a walk along the front to old Portsmouth. Would have needed to walk 20 miles to use up the calories we ate at the Tenth Hole! It is really the club house on the miniature golf course, very pretty with lots of hanging baskets & climbing roses. It was a gorgeous day so we were able to sit outside at one of the many tables. Not an awful lot of room inside & I can understand their rule that between 11.30am & 2.0pm minimum spend at these tables is £3.00.

The lunch menu looked wonderful with mouthwatering pasta dishes
& their specialty Jayne's salad, (see left) which has everything in it
except the kitchen sink! All reasonably priced. I think they are
open all day as they also do breakfasts, baguettes, special sandwiches
etc. Better check if you plan a Winter visit.
We only went for coffee & cake. The variety of home made cakes they have on offer is staggering & of course you are spoilt for choice, they all look so delicious. We chose a Raspberry Frangipane which was served warm with cream & a chocolate concoction that was called something like Lumpy Chunky! We shared each one & they were both seriously yummy! Anyone with a sweet tooth like me should get there immediately. It must be wonderful to live near so you could visit regularly & try all the cakes. This is my new mission a weekly trip to Southsea! |
Excellent coffee, young & friendly staff, highly recommended! BUT be prepared to queue, we had to wait a long time on both visits but worth it & it gives you longer to decide what to order from a massive choice.
(On our revisit in July I had the Jayne's salad which is amazing value as it has soooo much in it. Masses of bacon, potato, salad, fruit, pasta, cole slaw, sweet corn, mayo! Almost enough for 2, delicious. We also had lemon zest cake & a custard Danish, scrumptious!)
Cost £ for coffee & cake. Lunch & cake £ £
Yummy factor 8/10
