Visited 1st July 2003

3 friends and I had dinner in this newly decorated Pub.  There is plenty of space for parking and a small rear garden with lots of nice new wooden tables and chairs.   First thing to comment on is the friendly staff as we were very well looked after.  I must also mention, as I have not come across it before, when you go to the loo old radio comedy shows are playing.  My first visit Round the Horn was playing and on my second, Hancock's Half Hour, what a novel idea!

Now down to business, the food -  we decided not to have starters as we all have a sweet tooth!  So from a good choice menu and specials board we had the following.  A Sussex Smokey which was a blend of white fish and smoked fish with tomato in a creamy cheese sauce topped with cheese crumble.  Next was a Minted Lamb Steak which had a sweet honey mint sauce over it.  Chicken Mozzarella was penne pasta combined with strips of chicken breast and mushrooms in a rich mozzarella sauce served with pesto bread and mixed salad.  I decided to have Moules Provencale which was served over egg noodles and Granary bread.  All our choices were good even the vegetables were crunchy!    Usual nice fattening choices from the Pudding Menu!  2 had apple and blackberry crumble, 1 served with a nice little pot of custard, the other a small pot of ice cream.  1 sticky toffee pudding with custard and 1 large ice cream with toffee sauce.  Our main courses were around £7 each and the puddings were £3.50 each.  We had 2 bottles of Pinot Grigio at £10.45 each which needless to say went down very well!  With 4 coffees and a couple of other drinks our total bill was £68.85.  We were asked if we wanted refills of coffee which is unusual these days.

This is a busy pub and one is not able to book a table, but it has many areas for eating plus the garden.  Its the usual procedure of finding a table with a number and placing your order at the bar.  However we had an extremely nice waitress that looked after us very well. We didn't need to go to the bar again!!  A great evening was had by all.
