What a brilliant addition to Gunwharf, we love this restaurant, it only opened earlier this month & if you read the quotes on their website you will see we are not alone in our adoration of Strada! Friends who visited Strada in Reading sang their praises so the thought of good Italian food plus shopping was too much to resist!
Just briefly, if any of you ladies have not yet visited Gunwharf Quays you must do so, it's shopping paradise! We also went up The Spinnaker Tower that has only just opened, unfortunately the panoramic lift was not working, a fabulous view when you get to the top.

Back to
business! The decor is chique, a buzzy wine bar feel about it &
they have plenty of space over two floors. We were warmly welcomed
& shown to our table, our main server was Leah. When we complimented
her on her knowledge of, & enthusiasm for, the menu she told us they
had all had a thorough training before Strada opened & it
showed. It was a pleasure to listen to her recommendations which she
described so beautifully. We had very attentive but not intrusive
service.
As soon as we sat down we were given two complimentary bottles of filtered water in old fashioned frosted glass bottles, a really nice touch as we normally have to ask for a jug of water. Whilst making our choices Leah brought us a basket of Schiacciatella (no I cant pronounce it either!), we chose the garlic & rosemary flavour, its lovely & light & crunchy, see pic on left. Our starters below: the favourite, the stunning Gamberoni! The shells were split to allow easy access (!) & you must have bread for dunking in the gorgeous chilli sauce. For more detailed descriptions of our dishes, visit their website. They also have a great value set lunch menu for only £8.95 (Mon-Fri 12-6pm) plus a daily specials menu. |

We finished
off this fabulous feast with two puddings & four spoons! On the
left a delicious gooey chocolate concoction, Fondente Al Cacao, warm
melting chocolate pudding served with rum & coffee ice cream...
heaven! The other equally mouthwatering dish was Torroncino Affogato,
iced nougat semi-freddo with a shot of espresso poured over it, very
unusual, sorry the photo was not good enough to do it justice!
We enjoyed our usual G&T's to start with, served as we like, the tonic separately so we can add the amount we want, & a bottle of Soave. We finished with coffees. Strada serves fantastic freshly cooked Italian food at reasonable prices, we will be back! |
