2007 Now under new ownership
Visited November 2004
We were having a day in Lymington & decided to re visit Stanwell House as it's quite some time since we we last ate there. It is such an attractive Georgian Town House which has been beautifully decorated in vibrant colours. Its easy to get lost as there are so many different rooms. (Check out their website for more details & pictures). We had pre lunch drinks in the conservatory (this leads on to a lovely patio) & ate in The Bistro which is just off the bar. Lots of up & down stairs but assured by the very friendly & efficient staff that they are only too willing to help people in wheelchairs, in fact we saw proof of this! It has a cosy atmosphere & I would be quite comfortable popping in here on my own. A friend has recommended the afternoon teas served in the conservatory & apparently they have very well patronised Jazz nights on a Tuesday. It is open all day to non residents.

We ate off the £10 for 3
courses menu, (1 course £5.50, 2 courses £7.50), it really is the most
amazing value for money!
Above, Tortilla Crisps with Guacamole & Salsa, Greek Salad, left, Salmon Terrine & Aioli, 4th choice was Chicken Liver Parfait with Melba Toast. All delicious, especially the homemade Tortilla Crisps. |
| Two of us
selected Slow Roasted Minted Lamb, one Slow Roasted Pork with Dijonnaise
Sauce & one the veggie dish, Mushroom & Tarragon Risotto. Of
the 3 dishes the latter was the least enjoyed but the meat dishes were
excellent & enormous portions. They were served with a selection
of crunchy vegetables.
Of course we had puds even though we were really full!

The Stilton was very mature,
the chocolate tart very chocolaty, & the passion fruit & mango
parfait really tasted of the fruit, the poppy seed accompanying biscuit
was very unusual.
We finished our lunch with coffees back in the conservatory where, at the moment along with the bar, is the only smoking area though this may well change in the future. We started with G&T's & had a particularly enjoyable bottle of Viognier. We will be back! |

| The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head ) |
