Visited March 2006

Six of us gathered here to celebrate a birthday.  Our first impression was a good feeling of comfort having noted their big squashy sofas & stools.  We then realised that we had limited views of the marina which, as it was dark, made little difference to the ambiance but may detract from a daytime visit.

Four of us chose Tian of Crab & Avocado & two Tempino of Goats Cheese, Red Pepper Relish.  The Tian was tasty & the red pepper relish was quite hot.  For my main course I chose Pan Fried Scallops, Crushed Vanilla Potatoes & Tempura Vegetables.  It was quite disappointing.  There were plenty of scallops well cooked but the crushed potatoes were actually mashed & overly flavoured with vanilla.  The tempura vegetables were placed on top of the mash & were very hard.  Two chose Confit of Duckling, Casserole of White Beans & Wild Mushrooms, unfortunately it was lacking the beans, we were told they didn't have any!  The Loin of Pork, Roquefort Mousse & Mustard Mash was voted the best meal, the Honey Glazed Salmon, Lobster Veloute & Ratatouille a close second.

We enjoyed 3 bottles of Tempranilla & 2 glasses of white wine. The staff were all charming.

I visited Salt when it first opened last December, on that occasion the food was excellent & therefore I will give it the benefit of the doubt & try it again in the future.
