Visited November 2002

14 of us gathered here for a B'day celebration.      We were all delighted & very happy to have found this delightful eatery.

The new owners have created a very warm & welcoming atmosphere see their brochure on the left.

Obviously they were expecting us but I liked the fact that as soon as the first members of the party arrived we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff.  She came from behind the bar to take our drinks orders & give us specially printed menus.  It was lovely to not have the normal hassle of a large party all trying to get a drink in a busy pub!

Another excellent touch, they suggested the B'day girl tried several different wines before she ordered for us all.

Eventually we were all seated & then the pleasure really began!!  My choices were, Gorgonzola & Parmesan Soufflé, Tornedo of Sirloin & then Tiramisu.  Every mouthful was ecstasy, (no, I am not exaggerating) such wonderful & unusual  flavours, I ate very slowly to make it all last as long as possible!!!!!  This is the first time that for my food I would have given 10/10.  Obviously I was delighted that all my choices were so perfect for my taste.  Several chose the same as me & many had the Lobster & Smoked Salmon starter.  This was also delicious but not as unusual as my soufflé.    I tasted some of the other main course choices, all yummy but  I felt the sauce with mine made it so special.  Having a sweet tooth the Tiramisu was to die for!  Almost forgot, we were all given a complimentary appetiser, a  tasty deep fried cheesy concoction, a generous gesture.

Impressively, when different bottles of wine arrived, we were offered fresh glasses.  Cant make much comment on the wine list as I didn't see it but the buffs seemed to approve.

The food was presented & served beautifully and all the management & staff are so friendly.  I want to return for one of their Monday night Tapas evenings ASAP!!

You must visit the loos accessed through an intriguing door that looks like a bookcase!  In the Ladies individual hand towels are always impressive but they also very generously offer several interesting "freebies" to ensure you continue to enjoy your evening!!!!!

Cost:  With a LOT of pre dinner drinks & wine £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £  but it is obviously possible to enjoy yourself here for far less!

Yummy Factor  9/10

Report C. J.

Revisited March 2003 & was just as impressed!!!!  Very different menu from last visit, still very highly recommended but not cheap.

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
