Revisited on separate occasions in August by both CJ & SM.  We thoroughly agree with it's high marking, great food and service so thoroughly enjoyed!

Visited March 2007

I have been asked to write a review about the Two Rimjhim Restaurants as I am such a fan!

Let’s start with Colden Common: Sited in an old pub with plenty of free parking and it is disabled friendly due to the entire restaurant being on one level. The entire Restaurant is Non Smoking (Hooray).  Loos are clean and bright with nice smelling hand wash in them all.

Service is very attentive and nothing seems too much trouble for the ample amount of staff.  I have frequented this restaurant on many occasions, so I will give you one or two examples of the many dishes I have enjoyed here.

Starters: Salmon Tikka, Pink salmon matured in a mildly spiced marinade of Dill and Fennel it comes with Mustard and Lemon grass on the Plate…..Superb!

Kakor: Crab and Cod cake with ginger, basil and fennel seeds to make a delicious combination.

Mains: Narikel Duck, glazed Gressingham duck breast in cream, coconut and cinnamon. Medium spiced and served with Lemon rice. A perfect combination.

Other choices include: Chicken breast stuffed with avocado and green chilli, Sirloin steak on spiced mashed potato, Sea bass, Prawns…etc.

The Desserts vary from Ice cream to homemade Indian specials.

A wide choice awaits you in the Wine list. One of my favourites is a Shiraz Rose but there are many good wines both Red and White and of course lets not forget Liqueur Coffees( try one with Amaretto Nice!)

£20 per head is the average cost but you can make it a lot less if you wish or much more if you are one of those Ladies that do Lunch (ha ha)

They do a special price for Lunch. Two courses £7.95 and that is choosing from the same main menu. Bargain!

I never mentioned that it caters for Vegetarians with wonderful dishes such as Kashmiri Aloo: Scooped out potato filled with mixed vegetables then coated with crumbs and finished in a tomato and dill sauce and served with a large rice stuffed pepper…Yum Yum. Careen Pea and corn cake in fenugreek and tomato sauce…Tasty…Many more selections await you.

Ok, now for Southampton Rimjhim : NOW CLOSED !!!

From the outside you will think it to be a small Restaurant but do enter, where you are greeted by a gentleman in full Indian costume from the days of the Raj! He will show you to the stairs or the large glass fronted lift; this is designed for wheelchairs but also carries guests who are less mobile on the stairs.

On reaching the bottom (yes, you go down!!) you will see that the owners have knocked together the four basements of the still trading shops above.  This makes a Restaurant that can seat 100 persons with plenty of room around the tables. Look to the left corner and you will see the working kitchen behind glass walls and watch the Chef in high hat cook your meals.

The Loos are brand new and very clean; men’s, ladies and the disabled areas have all mod-cons.  The whole restaurant feels up market but the prices do not reflect this.

Now the food:  The menu has all the dishes on it from the 1st restaurant with some exclusive extra meals.  Vegetarians are again well catered for as are the old school “I must have a curry and Nan bread” brigade!

I started with Jinga Zafrani. This is King Prawns marinated in various spices. Very tasty!  My main, which arrived when I wanted it (I was asked by the waiter if I was ready for my next course, nice touch) was Tandoori Seared rack of Lamb. Very tender lamb served on a bed of Mossala mashed potatoes. Wanted more… Yummy!

Now to the desserts (I love them) I decided on their Chocolate & Passion Fruit Mille Feuille sounds good eh? Well unfortunately they had run out of passion fruit so we will not know until I return again. After much apologising they brought me White Chocolate Mousse and Griottine Cherries. This was free of charge but I would have gladly paid for this moist dessert with Kirsch in the middle. Lovely!!

The wine I chose was an Indis Shiraz from Western Australia this went just right with the meal.

Other choices my guests enjoyed included: Roasted sea bass, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Shaslik and wild mushrooms with a kedgeree, they all received the thumbs up for quality.

I haven't mention that the restaurant is totally Non Smoking and the air is free of any cooking smells.

The cost per head was approximately £25 so £50 a couple with wine, coffee and a small tip can not be bad.

I know they do lunch but I do not know if it is the same as the other restaurants offer.

My opinion on both of these restaurants is.. a must to visit!  I have been to restaurants in London and Manchester that serve this Contemporary Indian Cuisine and now at long last we down South have two, they are not expensive and the dining conditions are a joy, do try.  (Hoped you enjoyed this review? If you did! Tell Carol! If you didn’t! Keep it to yourself.)

Yummy Factor 9/10 for both Rimjhims

Guest Report from D H from Gosport..... A Lad who Lunches!

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
