We stopped for a drink on our way to Freshwater Bay & were impressed with the herb garden to the pub so booked a table to have lunch on our return journey. (Booking really important as they are always so busy).
The food was excellent, I chose my favourite scallops wrapped in bacon with bubble & squeak, they were cooked perfectly! I was served my own dish of cauliflower cheese, courgettes & carrots. My son had cod in beer batter, lovely crispy chips & mushy peas. In fact we all chose fish, my son's partner opted for smoked haddock kedgeree, my partner for a smoked salmon with scrambled egg starter, it was an ample portion. We had 2 glasses of wine plus 2 shandies.
My partner recognized the landlord as an ex Berkshire cricketer. The service is friendly & efficient, the pub traditional old English.
