Visited August 2003

Unfortunately we visited on a wet day.  It would have been lovely to sit in the very attractive gardens that surround this quaint and inviting pub/restaurant.  A great meeting place as there is a small car park, useful to know as unusual in a Winchester city pub.  Typical pub interior, fairly busy, popular with Winchester College.

Friendly staff, usual routine, start a tab, order at the bar but at least they delivered everything to the table.

Massive & varied choice from copious chalk boards, reasonable prices.  There were three of us, our choices were Ricotta Cannelloni with Spinach & Goats Cheese, Bean Celery & Coriander Chilli with Rice,  & lastly Queen Beef burger with Cheese Bacon Mayo & Lettuce.  Generous portions, enjoyed by all.  Followed by coffees.  Shared a bottle of their particularly good House White.

A very enjoyable lunch as we had the pleasure of meeting the oh so svelte Julie, creator of The Winchester Diet.  Whilst trying to  hide my enormous burger from her horrified gaze we swapped both diet & web site stories!

Cost: Slightly less than £ £ £ including tip.
