Re-visited December 2004

Ten of us met up for dinner here on December 30th.  The pub was not busy, I expect everyone was waiting for tonight's festivities, so there was no excuse for the terrible service.  When we did see the staff they were charming but we had to go to the bar to ask for more wine, I am sure we would have had a lot more if they had noted when we'd finished a bottle & asked if we required more!  Of course we did, it was a party!  Then we had to go to the bar to tell them we wanted some puddings, it was ridiculous.  God knows what the service is like when they are busy.  A shame because all the food was excellent, sorry didn't write down  the details, I'm on holiday as well!

I visited the Plough again at lunchtime on Good Friday.  It was an ideal stop off for a snack having had a lovely walk up on Farley Mount, situated nearby.  Obviously, being Easter, the place was very busy and the weather was glorious but we managed to get a table in the garden.  Although we were advised our lunch would be 20 mins. to half an hour, it came in 10 !

Bearing in mind this is more a restaurant type pub with a chalk board of lots of delicious choices, their snack menu is only small with sandwiches, Ciabatta bread with fillings and several different ploughman's.  I had a brown bread sandwich with a ham and mustard filling.  The bread was really good and very thickly cut.  At this point I must tell you when I ordered my sandwich the very friendly young girl behind the bar warned me the bread was cut very thickly!  Wasn't sure if she was looking at the size of my spare tyre or whether this was normal!!

Back to the food - my friend had a Ciabatta filled with chicken, bacon and lettuce etc. a bit expensive at £6.95 but fortunately  very nice.  My sandwich by the way was £4.75, again a bit pricey but the ham was off the bone and tasty.  We also thought the drinks were expensive but all in all well worth a visit as the surrounding area is lovely and the food good.

 Yummy factor 7/10

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
