La
Parisienne
Restaurant Cafe Bar 131 High Street Southampton 023 80222250 www.la-parisienne.co.uk |
Update, March 2005 Revisited on a Saturday night, sorry to say food not as good as on the last visit AND, most peculiar, on a Saturday night you are no longer allowed to smoke anywhere. Apparently at any other time you are allowed to smoke, as before, in the bar area, surely somewhere should be either smoking or non smoking?

Hurray, one of our favourite
restaurants has come to Southampton! La Parisienne has now been open for
about 4 weeks so we were very pleased to have the excuse of a Christmas outing
to see if it's as good as it's big sister in Romsey. It is & the only
reason it hasn't got a
is that at times the service was a bit erratic. The staff were all very
friendly & charming but they were very busy &, I felt, still finding
their feet.
The restaurant is attractive &, pleased to say, has the same French atmosphere as Romsey. You can smoke in the bar area.

The menu is, as far as I can remember, exactly the same as in Romsey (why change a successful formula?). Four of us each chose a different starter: Salade Parisienne, pictured, (a great lunch dish) bacon, crutons, parmesan & Caesar dressing, Salade Pyrénées, with Roquefort, bacon & walnuts, Escargot Bourgogne & Soupe de Poisson. All delicious & very filling. |

We then all
had steaks: two chose Entrecôte beurre maitre d'Hotel à l'ail (sirloin
with garlic butter), an Entrecôte Bordelaise & a plain Filet de Boeuf.
All served with French Fries. They were all cooked to perfection, medium
as requested, & were so tender! Best steak I have had for ages,
very yummy.

We retired to the bar for coffee & liquors & the sights! Watching the youth of today out of the windows enjoying Friday night in downtown Southampton was hilarious. It's a bit hypocritical of me to accuse them of being drunk as we were, but somehow we mange to curb the urge to roll around the pavements (the boys) & to strut around half naked (the girls)! And yes I'm getting old! ( Dont worry, the patrons of La Parisienne were very sophisticated)
Thoroughly recommend La Parisienne, we'll be back soon. We had 2 bottles of decent wine plus a lot of liquors so it was an expensive evening but it doesn't have to be if you have a bit more will power than us!
