January 2004
This was a Sunday out for 3 ladies on The South Bank! Unfortunately The London Eye was closed ( until 4/2/04 ) so we walked to The Oxo Tower Wharf & after looking at the shops decided on an early lunch as it was raining. The Brasserie was offering too much food as we were going to be eating again in the evening so we went into The OXO Bar, what a super choice! A very nice waitress took our order for both food & drink which meant that we could relax & chat. The Bar food is served daily from 12 noon until 10pm. The menu is small but each of our choices were YUMMY. They were, Crispy Fried Indian Samosas & Tomato Cardamom Jam, Pan-fried Pancetta Wrapped Prawns,( Prawns Fantastic!) Feta Hummus Dip & Char grilled Turkish Bread, Charcuterie plate, Pickles & Bread, plus a portion of Basil, Mint & Lemon Olives. We had a bottle of house merlot.

Because it was so great to have table service & we were on top of the OXO Tower overlooking the Thames,

After out relaxing lunch we moved on to the Tate Modern ( I'm not qualified to comment on the art but we did laugh a lot!) Then over the river to Somerset House to view The Gilbert Collection, well worth £5 entrance fee. A quick look at the skating rink & then on to meet the men who had been at the boat show. We eventually decided to try Cafe Carluccio's, another good choice.
Friendly service & freshly cooked food & the fun of buying extra virgin olive oil from the deli at 10.30pm! The Brushetta was very generous & flavorsome. Other choices, Sicilian Arancini di Riso, (2 crispy deep fried rice balls, 1 filled with Mozzarella & the other Ragu), were substantial, Antipasto Misto & a savoury Bread Tin served with Olive Oil. Main courses, Milanese di Pollo, Ossobuco alla Milanese, Lasagna Tradizionale, all of which were very good. Finished our meal with coffees, so together with 3 bottles of Valpolicella,
