We are very lucky to have Oxford Street in Southampton, so many excellent restaurants to choose from & now we have another favourite! The Oxford Brasserie is most probably one of the longest established restaurants in the area. As it has always had a good reputation we decided it was time to check it out & we were not disappointed.
It is the place to choose if you would like peaceful surroundings. We were here at lunch time &, even though there were several tables occupied, the atmosphere was serene. It was lovely to be able to gossip with out having to raise our voices against loud fellow diners & "background" music! Crisp white table cloths & napkins, very friendly efficient waiter.
We were all driving so I had 2 glasses of house white ( only!), SM had a G&T & our friend had a Martini & a glass of white plus lots of water! We all had the Table D'Hote menu, very good value at £10.50 for 2 courses. SM had Grilled Fresh Sardines with Garlic & Olive Oil followed by Pan Fried Calves Liver & Bacon on Onion Mash. This was also my main course choice, our friend chose Chicken Breast with Field Mushrooms with Bacon & White Wine Sauce. We both had Fresh Pineapple Cheese Cake. Everything was delicious, plenty of garlic on the sardines, the liver was like butter, the vegetables were crisp & the pudding was absolutely gorgeous!! (Do I like pudding, just a tad!) We finished with coffees, served with petit fours, a nice touch.
Their web site has details of their opening times & menus. We will visit again!
