The Milbury's is one of those unique places that would make Americans exclaim "gee, I just love your little old English pubs"!  We Brits just thought thank God the big pub chains haven't moved in here!!  The Restaurant is a bit off the beaten track but well worth the journey.

Six dined here at the weekend and with the slightly South African influence on the menu it made a pleasant change.  As the menu is changed regularly there is no printed menu but the very good & varied choice is on a large chalk board.  Lots of detail on their website.

For our first course 3 chose Portuguese Stuffed Mussels, huge, spicy and delicious! One had Chicken Liver Peri Peri, again spicy but in a more exotic way!  Another had soup of the day which was Tomato and Courgette, a generous portion served in a deep bowl. Lastly, I chose Grilled Calamari with a seasoned rice mixture yummy!

For our main courses , again from a very varied menu, I had Ostrich Steak, tasted a bit like dark meat of turkey, with apricots and lovely little roasted potatoes.  Two chose Rack of Lamb, delicious, and two had Torbay Sole with citron butter sauce, again very good.  Lastly one had a fish called King Klip, a bit like turbot.  Our only criticism, think the vegetables could have been a bit more adventurous to go with such a lovely menu.

The puddings of Cherries in Benedictine at £4.50 and Apple Crumble at £3.95 and one Blackcurrant Fool home-made ice cream at £4.50 were light and very tasty.  We all had coffee and our wines were Pinot Grigio around £11 and Shiraz around £14.  Commendable wine list with reasonable prices.

The atmosphere was good and booking is essential at the weekends.  If you are interested in wells, there is the deepest one I've seen at around 300 feet in the bar part of the Inn!  Definitely one to visit.

Cost £ £ £ £ £ £ £ ( if this visit had been on a Mon - Thurs. evening would have saved £12.95 using  LWL card as their discount is free dessert with every main course ordered!!)

Yummy factor 8 /10

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
