La Zenia en Espana

Crusoe's Cafe-Bar La Zenia Nr.Torrevieja Alicante Spain (situated at the La Zenia roundabout on the N332- next to the New Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant)

This is a small bar that if the person I was staying with had not recommended it one would probably not give it a second glance except that it was always busy ! We dined here 4 times and although a small menu the food was excellent - something for all tastes. Very friendly staff and the owners Peter and Suzanne certainly work hard. Peter was a chef on the QE2 and met Suzanne on board. My 4 meals were a delicious salmon in sauce, a vegetable kebab brioche, pasta in cream sauce with bacon and mushrooms and finally a juicy thick burger in toasted bun with crispy chips. All well presented and no complaints from any of us, particularly as it was so reasonable at around £5 per head. Yummy factor 8/10

This is a much larger Restaurant and although the prices are rather more than Crusoe's it was well worth it. Very well presented and friendly staff. I started with melon and Palma ham, followed by fillet steak kebab with salad, all excellent. The wine list is amazing but a bit pricey. We stuck to the house wine which was perfectly acceptable. Yummy factor 8/10

We went for the meal for 4 here as there was so much to choose from and anyway you get a free bottle of wine with combination meals. All the usual Chinese dishes very nicely served and to end with you are offered a free liqueur or bottle of champagne! Very good gimmick and needless to say the place was very busy. Our only complaint was that there was not enough rice. Yummy factor 6/10
