A Victorian pub in total contrast to Les  Mirabelles (already visited and right next door.)  It boasts a garden and child pet area in the rear garden plus bench seating at the kerbside entrance to the pub;  a good spot to people and pony watch while just having a drink.

Inside is a dining area, where the tables are close together,  and a table for two has a particularly small surface area.  There is a "specials" board and this particular Tuesday was offering a roast and a couple of fish dishes.  We ate from the main menu and chose half roast chicken (served with chips and a salad) and liver & bacon with onion gravy which came with a dish of mixed veg.  Very large portions.  A cabinet displayed gateaux and fruit pastries which looked very inviting but coffee filled the remaining space.

Interestingly the starters in the dining room area looked appetising, but for some reason it was not  possible to order say white bait or hot garlic king prawns unless a main meal was being ordered as well.

There was the possibility to eat from a bar meals menu and sit in another (larger) area and if visiting this pub again that would be the preferred option.

Nice friendly atmosphere;  good place to take visitors to UK to get a flavour of a country pub in modern times.  Some lovely old photos of the area in the early 1900's (and it hasn't changed that much) adorn the walls.

Saturday night will be as wild as it gets because there is a live band!
