Revisited February 2006 Sorry to say both food & service have gone downhill so revised Yummy Factor 6/10

Revisited March 2005 , happy to say still up to the standard of our last visit & very busy.

Visited November 2003

This very attractive Cafe Bar  is the converted Church opposite The Mayflower Theatre.  The conversion is stunning & well worth a visit to see the interior.  As you walk in the door you are faced with a very impressive roof high wall of wine!  We sat upstairs (in smoking area) & the sun was streaming in the stained glass windows.  Hopefully at night time the lighting is just as effective.

The staff are young, friendly, & efficient.  Menus very varied & it is possible to have "Deli" sizes of most dishes.  They also do a pre-theatre menu for a very reasonable £10.50 for two courses.  Visit their web site to read the menus in full & to see a few pics of the interior.

S.M. chose Moroccan Chicken & Vegetable Tagine with Fragrant Cous Cous & Spiced Potatoes from the Specials Board.  It was more "stew" like than expected but excellent spicy flavours.  S.A. was very impressed with Fresh Salmon Steak & Bantry Bay Mussels with Pernod, Fennel & White Wine Sauce, served with chips, ( her choice of potatoes), & a selection of fresh vegetables.  As a big pasta fan I really enjoyed Smoked Ham, Leek, & Mushroom sauce with spaghetti served with a lovely mixed salad tossed in a mustard dressing & Ciabatta bread.  We washed it down with our usual bottle of house white, a Chilean Chardonnay at £11.15.  Finished with coffees served with a yummy Belgian choc!

Opening times vary so best to check.  I think it is open all day from Thurs-Sun, sorry we were talking too much to do our job & remember the times in detail!  Look forward to returning very soon!

Cost: just under £ £ £

Yummy Factor 9/10

Report C.J.

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
