Visit to Javea, Costa Brava, Spain, in February 2004

Villa Pakatoa, pool area

Villa Pakatoa, terrace

Three of us were lucky enough to stay for a week in Javea in February.  We visited friends who were renting a very sumptuous villa (from www.javeaholidays.com).  It was beautiful, just wish we had had the weather to enjoy the enormous pool area & sit in the sun.  We were unlucky & only had 2 sunny days, so we had to just sit around & eat & drink a lot, it was terrible!!!

We did most of this over indulging " at home" but were also out & about around the area.  You must try Scallops on the sea front at Javea.  We went to have their famous cholesterol filled typical English fry-up!  Yes, its one of those joints but the breakfast was fab AND included was a free bottle or either red, white, or rose & all for €3.95!!  Everyone emerges with a smile & waving their bottle!  What a brilliant business. 9/10

On a trip to Denia we visited this Pizzeria.  Had the Menu del Dia at €8.70, nothing special, think the pizza would most probably have been a better choice.  Good location on the sea front. 6/10

Ctra. Portitxol, s/n Javea. Tel:96 647 12 78  Booking recommended.  This was definitely our favourite find of the week!  Wonderful atmosphere, waiters great fun, fabulous food & very reasonable vino of which we had copious amounts!  In fact had such a good time I cant remember much about it apart from the most gorgeous Gambas Pil Pil.  Lights very low & flattering!  Highly recommended, sure a   taxi driver would know where it is.  9/10 Not cheap!

An Shebeen

The Irish Tavern

Also highly recommended The Irish Bar, as everyone refers to An Shebeen.  Great food & very reasonable prices.  Deservedly very popular! 8/10

Christobal Colon, Paseo Amanecer, 5 Playa Arenal Javea Tel:96 647 09 58  We spent our last night here.  All looks very new & swish but food not very special & fairly expensive.  Waiters didn't want to show us menu of the day!  Lights far too bright. 5/10  But we had a nice farewell evening.....

We spent our last night in Alicante as we had an early flight home from there.  We found this cafe late afternoon/early evening & ended up staying here for ages!  The tapas were so gorgeous we just had lots of them instead of going somewhere for dinner.  Wonderful garlic prawns & meatballs, very yummy 8/10

And then we flew home & tried to get back on the diet!
