3 of us were exploring the Alton countryside when we came upon The Star Inn in the lovely village of Bentworth and thought it was about time we stopped for lunch!  The Star is a typically rustic country pub displaying plenty of interesting memorabilia to keep your eyes occupied ranging from cricket mementoes to defunct currencies.  Looks like this is the venue to keep your ears busy as well, lots of live blues events take place here.  Check out their web site for details of gigs, opening times, the menus, including a great value £6 lunch, and most important how to find it!

We enjoyed our usual G&T's, excellently served, (separate Schweppes tonic) by the landlord Matt.  He, his wife Karen, who is the chef & their young waitress are all very friendly &, as the restaurant was very busy, obviously run a very popular pub.

We chose from the main menu, 2 starters, only the Greek Salad pictured, top left. The other choice was Grilled goats cheese with onion chilli relish and cherry tomatoes.  Main courses were: Lamb Shank slow roasted, served with a rosemary, garlic and red currant sauce, top left, Liver Bacon and Onions pan-fried with orange, and oregano, left, & from the specials board, Salmon Steak poached with fresh dill, lemon & white wine, above.  We enjoyed a very reasonably priced Chardonnay.

The food was very tasty & so satisfying that we just shared one delicious pud, Crunchy Raspberry Ripple Terrine, and finished with coffees.

We recommend the Star for a good pub lunch & wish we lived nearer as would love to enjoy some of the Blues gigs.
