| The Malthouse Inn 14/25 | | Stockbridge Road Timsbury Romsey Hampshire SO51 ONG | Vegetarian: YesParking: Own car parkWheelchairs: EasyLoos: Average | Visited March 2010 - Cost ££ | The Malthouse is a family run free house just north of Romsey on the Stockbridge Road. They have a large car park and garden with plenty of outdoor fun for children along with an extensive patio area for al fresco dining. Inside has space for 150 diners and wheelchair access is OK. Although there’s an extensive menu this pub is known for Carol's famous Carvery! (No, CJ has not opened her own pub!) The carvery joints are delivered fresh from their local butcher and choices change daily and will include Pork, Beef, Turkey, Lamb or Gammon. One orders from the bar having been given a table number. For the carvery you are given a ticket and you go and help yourself. We were five and all decided on the carvery as the choice was a huge turkey, joints of pork and beef, together with cabbage, swede, cauliflower, broccoli in a white sauce, roast and new potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls gravy and sauces! All for £5.00 - Mon - Fri 12 - 2.30 & 5-9. On Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays 12-8 and the carvery is £7.95. The full menu is available all day every day. The food had good flavour and the meat was tender, our only complaint, it could have been hotter, but that can be the trouble with carvery food. We all decided no puds today so only had coffee. We did share a bottle of good Chilean Rioja. A good cheap meal and good value for families. It does get very busy so booking is recommended. Cost ££, sorry no photos but you all know what a roast looks like! | Ladies Who Lunch Scoring:Quality of food Variety of menu Staff and service Ambience, setting and decor Value for Money
