Mine hosts Eric (the chef) and Sharon (front of house) have owned it for 3 years and we wish them well in their ongoing venture. They are sensibly doing a senior citizens lunchtime special for £9.50 for 2 courses (Tues- Sats). If you haven't quite reached that "magic" age the lunchtime menu is still very reasonable at £4.25 for all starters and £7.95 for all main courses. They also serve morning coffee and afternoon teas, check out their website for opening times and further details. |

| | | | We arrived a little early and as unusually not all my friends like G & T's we enjoyed a Pinot Blush at £16.00, nice and cold and dry. From the choice of starters we decided on warm goat’s cheese with pine nut salad, duck and port pate with red onion, melon and fruit cocktail and smoked mackerel with salad. For our main courses, haddock with chips and peas, oven baked sole fillet with new potatoes and mornay sauce, loin of pork with Dauphinoise potatoes and cider mustard sauce and finally a steak and kidney pudding/pie with cream potatoes. Considering the price, all good size portions and flavour and served with a dish of crunchy carrots, cabbage and broccoli. We enjoyed our meals. Not posh or pretty plates, just good home cooked food. Our only complaint would be the long delay for both courses but the lovely waitress was rushed off her feet. The restaurant was fairly busy and as we were 5 women and had a 2nd bottle of wine we were forgiving! As you can see from the photos the waitress also had to deal with 5 men on a re-union! It turns out they had all attended Southampton University in the Sixties and three had lived at Blue Hayes Cottage before it became a restaurant. In fact our table was situated in what was Giles’s (2nd on left) bedroom!! We are hoping to meet up again on their next re-union! Back to business, the loos are located by the front door so easy disabled access. If this lovely summer continues try their al-fresco dining - the swimming pool is now a sunken decking area that's great for dancing! The garden is a perfect size for a marquee, alternatively the indoor function room seats up to 33 people, perfect for a party of any description!!
