We have been hearing great things about the newly refurbished Seashells and as SA lives very near thought it was about time we tried one of her locals! It has been a restaurant in Hythe for many years and definitely has one of the best views over Southampton water; on the day we went the weather wasn’t nice enough to sit on the very large deck but as the new interior is so attractive this was not a problem.

The Waitrose car park, next to the restaurant, has a time limit of 2 hours but if you are in the mood for a long and leisurely lunch then Seashells can provide you with a parking permit.

This family friendly bar & restaurant is open from 10am each day, offering breakfast, tea and coffee as well as lunch and dinner or just a drink in the bar. From mid-day they offer a full menu of home cooked, locally sourced foods. Their menu is impressive and includes starters, mains, fish dishes, grills plus some very interesting Light Bites (served from 12-5) for example, Goats cheese, bacon & pea omelette at only £5.95 sounds delicious. They also have a range of snacks including doorstep sandwiches, ploughman’s and baked potatoes.

Their specials board gives a nod to fine dining so of course I chose to eat from it! My starter Fig, Parma ham & mozzarella salad followed by Pan fried whole Sea Bass served with citrus herb butter. SA chose from the normal menu, Mussels mariniere with toasted garlic bread and Slow roasted half shoulder of lamb served with a red wine rosemary jus, potatoes and vegetables. The food was freshly cooked with lovely flavours and very nicely presented. We saw lots of dishes going past that also looked very appetising. We shared a delicious Plum crumble with stem ginger ice cream. As we were both driving we just had a glass of wine each.

Seashells offer something for everyone and every appetite; they even have free wi-fi so it could be an ideal place for a business get together. The staff are very friendly and the ambiance is relaxing. We suggest that if you are in the area you give it a try! Cost £££££ but remember we had a proper lunch.

Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire... Thank you!
