Today we enjoyed some of the best food we have eaten this year; it is very rare for us to award a 5/5 for food but The Crown deserves it! Phil, the chef and Janine, front of house have now been at The Crown for three years and are earning an enviable reputation for their food though they are also pleased that many people still treat The Crown as their local pub. We sat at our table as soon as we arrived; comfy high backed leather chairs, wooden tables, and wood floors, perhaps décor could best be described as modern contemporary and there’s a large open fire, very attractive. Our G& T’s were expertly served and so whilst enjoying them we started to try to decide what to eat, not an easy task as there were just so many tempting things on both the Menu and the Specials Board. Luckily we were sat just under the board as there was a lot on there to remember! The Lunch Menu prices range from £5.50 - £15.95 for some items, like my lamb, on the Specials Board. On the evening Menu the starters range from £5.50 - £8.50 for scallops, Mains from £9.95 - £18.95 for fillet steak. |

| | | | | | | I decided not to have a starter (only to save myself for the pud!) but the other three chose, from the Menu, Soup of the Day, Stilton & Broccoli, Penne Pasta with Smoked Salmon & Prawn with a white wine & chive cream and from the Specials Board A Warm Asparagus & Mushroom Salad with pine nuts. For mains SM chose another starter from The Specials Board, Dressed Crab salad with new potatoes, SA had from the Menu Crispy confit of Duck Leg served on mash in a plum & orange sauce, from The Specials I opted for Oven Baked Rack of Lamb, sauté potatoes & red currant jus and JI the Pan fried Liver & Bacon on Mash, red onion marmalade & red wine & balsamic reduction. All the mains, except the crab were served with a delightful timbale of vegetables. You can see from the picture that once the tiny parcel was cut open it contained an amazing amount of vegetables! It is so unusual for all of us to really enjoy all of our choices! The food tasted delicious, was presented beautifully and the portions were generous. And then the puds! The others who were full shared a Vanilla Panacotta with Rhubarb Compote and I had the most scrumptious Blackberry & Apple Crumble with both custard & ice cream… and then I was very very full as well! We finished with freshly ground coffees (free refill) and during lunch we drank a Pinot Grigio Blush Sartori at £15.00.
