We arrived at this quaint New Forest 18th Century free house country pub early & suggest you do the same as this is very busy popular venue.  Since the lst October it is now totally non-smoking but there is a large garden, part of which is covered over so OK for smokers in all weathers.  If you are into horses, doggy walking, biking or hiking this is definitely the place for you!  On the downside, not easy access for wheelchairs to the one ladies loo, not able to book tables and a suggestion that your mobile phone is turned off though some might think that a plus !!

Down to food, a good selection from a printed standard menu but also a specials board to choose from.

Our choices were: from the specials board Haddock in Beer Batter, Chips and Pea Fritter &  Whole pan fried Snapper with baby tomatoes and chilli sauce good sized portions.

From the standard menu, Thai Spiced Salmon Cakes with sweet chilli sauce, fries and mixed leaf salad & lastly a warm Chicken and Bacon salad with cherry tomatoes and a mustard dressing both tasty.

Usual pub routine, you order your food at the bar.

We had a very good House Viognier  @ £11.95.  We decided to be good and not have desserts so finished off with coffee.  Obviously because we had a Gin and Tonic each and two bottles of wine our bill was roughly £20 head.
