| Three of us "Ladies" visited Badi Mirchi (it means hot chilli) Indian cuisine which opened 6 months ago in the former Leigh Hotel. If you enjoy Indian Cuisine this is a must with a good selection from many regions in India prepared and cooked for you by confident chefs.
On our arrival we were made very welcome and the first impressions were delightful as the ambience and comforting smells from the daily buffet were very welcome on a cold winters day! The décor is very tasteful, plenty of space and very relaxing. Over a G&T we decided on our choices and with the helpful guide from the manager we selected 3 starters and 3 mains to share. We were tempted to go for the Buffet which is available 7 days a week and great value at £7.95 but decided we should eat from the menu to enable us to review various dishes. To begin we nibbled on a selection of chutneys (spiced onions, Raita, mango chutney, lime pickle) with a generous basket of poppadums. Along came our starters, Aloo ki Tikki (spiced potato cake with chickpeas with tamarind sauce), Salmon Tikka (marinated with cardamom, mango & caraway- cooked in a clay oven), Mans Ke Shooley (spiced grilled lamb piccata, served with Riata); they looked wonderful and all tasted delicious.
For our main choices we selected Chicken Chettinad (south Indian spicy chicken breast with anise, coconut and chilli), Dum Ki Nali (succulent slow cooked Lamb Shank with spices), Sea Bass Moiley (pan fried fillet in coconut and mustard seed). The sea bass was a big favourite but we enjoyed them all and were impressed with the unusual flavours. They were all served with Pilau rice and we also had to try the garlic and coriander Naan which was also a favourite with us all.
Yes it sounds a big meal and it was so we declined any desserts even though they sounded tempting! Next time we will sample the lunch buffet which looked very interesting. They also do Take Away for collection only.
There is plenty more information including opening hours on their website.
We are sure that with this quality of the food and excellent service Badi Mirchi is sure to become a firm favourite with both locals and Indian food fans from far afield! We recommend.
