Reviewed June 2010 - Cost just over £££

We visited this pub today and although the sun was shining it was a bit windy so instead of sitting outside in the riverside garden we decided to go indoors.  Mike, the very convivial landlord, took over the Horse and Jockey in January this year, and as locals will know it had been rather hit and miss on the opening times and the food so they are happy with the change!  We were pleased to see home-cooked, freshly prepared food and the menu is changed frequently as it's located on blackboards around the pub.

We selected 3 Devon dressed crab with salad and new potatoes £9.50 each, one beer battered fish and chips £8.95 and one whitebait with garlic mayo and lime £4.95.  Good pub grub and portion sizes as you can see from photos.  Last orders are 3pm during the week but the pub is open all day on Saturdays and Sundays.  Apparently the Sunday roast is hand-carved with proper"roasties" and "yorkies" !

Typical pub surroundings but the loos were very good!  We finished with coffee which was served with a chocolate and together with our drinks on arrival and a bottle of Australian Shiraz @ £12.95  our bill including tip was £16.50 per head.

Ladies Who Lunch Scoring:

Quality of food 3/5
Variety of menu 3/5
Staff and service 3/5
Ambience, setting & decor 2/5 (4for ladies loo!)
Value for Money 2/5

Total Yummy Factor

13/25

Report: SM

5/5 = Cannot be improved upon, 4/5 = Very good, 3/5 = Good,
2/5 = Satisfactory, 1/5 = Poor, 0/5 = Terrible

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. (Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head)
