Hursley is situated on the A3090 between Romsey and Winchester. A charming old village and worth stopping by for a meal at this recently refurbished country pub. The bar area is attractive and the cosy log fires a joy on such a cold day as it was when we visited for lunch. The dining area is tastefully furnished; its soft colours, lovely slate flooring and comfortable seating are such an improvement on the décor of the old days.

The lunch "blackboard" menu is small but has a good selection of daily choices plus there's a snack menu of soup and/or sandwiches for lighter meals.  We selected from the blackboard: Lamb Shank, served with mash and seasonal vegetables, Duck Confit, served with mash and red cabbage; Smoked Haddock fishcakes with cherry tomatoes and creamy sauce and seasonal vegetables. All dishes were well presented and delicious @ £9.50 and generous servings.  With our meal we enjoyed a bottle of S.A. Aloe Tree Shiraz @ £15.00. We didn't sample the puds but the coffee served in a cafetiere was good.

I chatted to the two chefs, Simon and Elaine, after our meal they were busy setting up the evening menu with some tempting choices. They also serve a traditional Sunday Roast Lunch. I wish them well and feel this is going to be a good venue for our diners to enjoy.

Their website is still in progress.
