LWL Siver Award - Awarded January 2012- Cost ££££

Last week 14 friends and I stayed in the very scenic area of the Forest of Dean/Wye Valley and along with lots of great walks we enjoyed a really good Sunday lunch at this establishment.   Booking is essential, even if you haven't got 14 friends!  If we hadn't been told about it, we might have missed it; the outside is pale blue and looks more like a small pub, inside it’s like a tardis, very tastefully decorated and the staff are very friendly.

Adrian Eyles is mine host and Chef; together with Carolyn, his partner and Don, they make a formidable team!   Most Chefs stay in their kitchen but not this one; he likes to let you know what's cooking and then comes to see if all is OK.  I am not going to try and list all the 15 meals but some had half a chicken, roast pork with trimmings and a selection of burgers to die for.  A 4oz Ship's rat burger (lamb with rosemary and thyme) was a real hit.  For those with big appetites try the 12oz Ship's Titanic burger (steak, pork and lamb) served with American bun, beef tomato, gherkin, onion rings, coleslaw, potato rosti, fries and salad.

The menu offers a varied selection and we certainly enjoyed our 'Ship' experience.
Good job we'd already had our walk along the Severn we were all too full after lunch to move!   By the way, Carolyn's home made ice cream was to die for!

They have a garden at the rear where light meals are served in the summer.  Do go and see them if you are visiting the area. Cost ££££

Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire... Thank you!

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. (Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head)
