| We had been recommended to Fishy-Fishy by several friends and family who had visited recently - and we were not disappointed! It is located right on The Dolphin Quay in Poole harbour side - excellent for people watching, and plenty of ships/boats and ferries to and fro - plenty to see (sea - pun intended!) and although it was not warm enough to eat outside, there is also a covered 'al fresco' eating area in the front of the restaurant which would be excellent in the Summer months. We ate inside the restaurant right by a huge picture window, giving us uninterrupted views of the Quay and the Purbeck Hills beyond.
As you would expect by the name of this restaurant - this is primarily a seafood restaurant, so expect plenty of fish and seafood dishes on the menu - both a la carte and table d'hote available - and also specials catch of the day. The staff were young, friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and were able to answer any of our questions about the menu/ or the ingredients straight away.
We were impressed by the menu, some of the locals appeared to pop in their lunch hour just for some mussels or oysters, washed down by a glass of their favourite wine, and other patrons were there to linger over a 3 course menu and taking their time to savour all the flavours! We chose two courses from the a la carte menu - (please note: they also have a set priced menu available) The drinks/wine list was varied and good, and we chose a (recommended) bottle of Spanish Sauvignon Blanc - which was excellent. Together with a mix or tourists and visitors - there was a super 'buzz' about the place, busy but not overwhelmed!
The approximate cost on the day (and bear in mind that we were celebrating a birthday) was about £60.00 for the two of us - or £30 each (including wine). I forgot to mention that they have an excellent 'Fishy-Fishy' Cookbook available to purchase, priced at £16.99 - with clear, easy to follow recipes, which we treated ourselves to as well! - (I have deducted the cost for the book from the price quoted above). If you visit their website you'll also notice that they have another Fishy-Fishy restaurant in Brighton. NOTE from CJ thank you so much Judy for a great review! I want to go but please can you guarantee Dermot O’Leary, co-owner, will be there?? Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire...
