| Joe and I have had a restaurant challenge for the last 12 yrs. 4 times a year we treat each other to cuisine that is ethnically different; a kind of around the world in 80 dinners. It was his turn and he took me to the Hinds Head, Heston Blumenthal’s gastro pub in Bray, near Maidenhead. The Hinds Head is a 14th Century Tudor Hostelry close to the Thames in the pretty village of Bray. It has great atmosphere and we tingled with Foodie excitement as we were shown to our tables. The menu features many Olde English recipes, which was how Joe justified it as part of our challenge (I certainly wasn’t complaining)! |

| Joe started with Raw Scottish Beef with mustard dressing – delicious (£9.25). I went for the crispy squid with an outstanding watercress and chopped onion accompaniment (£7.95) Yes I know it sounds ordinary but it tasted divine. For mains Joe had Leak and Ham Pie – a bit salty (£13.65) and I had Pork sausages and mash (£12.95) – the three sausages and gravy were wonderful, although the mash was rather bland. Both had different house wines, which were beautifully presented in large, attractive glasses and served at the perfect temperature. We left a little room for dessert .The treacle tart was intense and perfectly balanced by the neutral ice cream. However the Apple Crumble had an over powering syrupy flavour, and had too much juice for my liking (may be it was an Olde English recipe). The total bill was £105 including tea and coffees, so definitely a special occasion venue, and on balance, well worth the trip. | Ladies Who Lunch Scoring:Quality of food Variety of menu Staff and service Ambience, setting and decor Value for Money
