| This pub stands on the banks of the River Itchen and offers stunning views from its outside terrace. Close to Winchester Cathedral and many other local attractions, particularly for our Walking Group! We parked in Chessil Street Car Park and enjoyed a 4 mile walk along the Itchen to St Cross and then back to the pub!
We were a group of 15 and naturally a pre-booked table was organised. Having made our choices, we were impressed that the orders were put in as a group order so that everyone ate together, full marks to the staff who looked after us all very well.
Do check out their web site for full details of their menu and offers. The majority chose from the "2 Meals for £12" menu, served from Mon - Thurs between 12 - 6pm. Choices were ham, egg and chips, sausage and mash, fish and chips, burger and chips or cheese omelette with chips and salad. The Specials Board included poached salmon fillet with vegetables £12.95, 8oz sirloin steak £13.95 or chicken fillet burger with chips and salad £10.75. Sandwiches are from £4 and jacket potatoes £4 plus £1 for toppings. The Main menu had plenty to choose from with starters £4 - £7, mains £9 - 10.
The food arrived promptly and on the whole was enjoyed by all, the portion sizes were fine. Not gourmet but not bad pub grub! No one had a pudding but there was a choice of 5 at £4.95 each or ice cream - 7 flavours - £3.95. Most had coffee.
The loos are upstairs and are fine, no parking, but the terrace garden will be the place to be in the Summer!
