If you don’t have a LWL Discount Card, click here to find our more – and start saving! The four of us decided to meet in the Winchester restaurant (Rimjhim has sister restaurants in Colden Common & Port Solent). The nearest car park is in Tower Street. We had a window seat in the modern and minimalist interior, this is a sophisticated restaurant! It is surprisingly large and with the blue and sparkly lighting in the eating area at the back must be very atmospheric at night. At the front there is a bar area and the lighter eating area we sat in. All the staff were friendly and helpful describing the dishes and even offering to moderate the spiciness if required. When we first saw the set lunch menu, excellent value at two courses (starters, mains, side dishes and naan or rice) for £8.95, we thought it looked very similar to any other Indian restaurant offering BUT when the food arrived the presentation was delightful, the portions plentiful and the flavours delicious! | | | | | | | | | | Of course as we were hungry we started with poppadums, (not included in the lunch price) accompanied by chutney, cucumber & yogurt & mint, salad and a raspberry & coconut mix, yummy but shouldn’t have eaten so much as there was so much more to come! Our starters: Onion bhaji, Sheekh kebab, Samosas and Chicken tikka. The side dishes we chose, Sag Aloo, Bombay Aloo and Tarka Dali plus Pilau and Lemon rice, Peshwari naan (I love this!) and Garlic naan! Our mains: Chicken Tikka Massala (a tad too sweet) Chicken Korma, very creamy, Gurkha Style Lamb Leg Curry and Lamb Jalfrezi. The lamb dishes were our favourites but we enjoyed everything and as you can imagine by now we were thoroughly stuffed!!Desserts vary from Ice cream to homemade Indian specials mostly priced at £4.95. We thought we must sample them so we chose a Ginger Crème Brulé , Firney, a traditional Indian dessert made with pistachio & cashew nut with ground white rice and a Cinnamon poached pear. I think we would have appreciated them more if we hadn’t been so full! The A la carte menu, on their website, includes many different and unusual dishes for an Indian restaurant. Abdul M. Tarafder, the owner of the Rimjhim group initiated the concept of embracing dishes from all of Southern Asia. You will be amazed to hear that we chose beer to drink instead of wine…. but we still started with G & T’s so our total bill ££££ | Ladies Who Lunch Scoring: Quality of food 4/5 Variety of menu 4/5 Staff and service 4/5 Ambience, setting & decor 4/5 Value for Money 5/5
