LWL Bronze Award - Awarded September 2011 - Cost ££+£2

This month's walk was to Danebury Hill Fort near Stockbridge and after a very interesting outing we came back into Stockbridge to enjoy our lunch at the Grosvenor.  We were 12 and to make life easy for the staff we all chose off the Seasonal Fixed Price Menu - 2 courses or one course with a glass of wine £11.

The Starters were Soup of the Day - creamed parsnip, delicious. Black pudding, vine tomatoes, smoked bacon, bubble & squeak stack with chilli jam. Artichoke & mushroom Wellington, ratatouille of courgette ribbons.

The majority ate from the Mains Menu and from a choice of 5 we enjoyed  Wiltshire-cured ham 2 poached free range eggs, chips and Dijonnaise.  British beef burger, smoked bacon, Taw Valley cheddar, tomato, mayonnaise and chips.  Mustard-brushed outdoor-reared Norfolk pork fillet, pan-fried caramelised apple, wilted spinach and sweet potato mash.

Puddings were apple and tarragon crumble with lavender-infused crème anglaise.  Sticky chocolate walnut brownie with a Grand Marnier & caramelised orange shot. Ice fruit berries with warm white chocolate sauce.

A really good value for money menu, the food was very well presented and good portion size.  We were all very satisfied and because we were a large party they put us in a private room not far from the bar and main restaurant area.

The Grosvenor is over 250 years old with nooks and crannies and oak-beamed features together with a classic Georgian frontage.  The rear garden will certainly be a real sun trap for outside dining in the summer.  The loos and most of the rooms are looking less than shabby chique but the hotel offers warm traditional and friendly hospitality.

There is a very useful car park at the rear of the hotel as those that know Stockbridge the main high street is always very busy.

Cost ££+£2
