LWL Bronze Award - Awarded November 2011 - Cost ££££

This modern restaurant, situated just off Portswood High Street, has been operating for some years now and we decided to visit having recently been recommended.

We were five and although it was Tuesday we booked and it was probably a good idea as they were very busy with a private party.  Although November the front terrace was being used as it was a glorious day, make a note for next summer!

It’s an interesting menu of Sandwiches for £6, Nibbles at £3.25 each or 5 for £15 and Starters of which there are 8 (you can also choose a main size portion. 7 Main courses; some around the £15 mark and Ceno Classics around £10.50.  We chose the following - Scallops, noodle stir fry, hoi sin pork £14.50. Slow cooked pork, bubble and squeak, roasted apple and onion £14.95. Pan fried sea bass, spiced crab fritters, tomato, red onion and coriander £15.25. Roast cod, chorizo, crispy potatoes, puttanesca and lemon £14.95. Lastly, slow roasted sticky lamb sesame noodle salad £11.50.  They were all delicious, flavoursome and a bit different! As the portions were also generous everyone was very happy.

What made us even more satisfied were the desserts.   There is a choice of 5 at £5.50 each, however, for £6.50 you can have all 5 in miniature i.e. served in shot glasses.  With 5 spoons at the ready we all tried all 5! They were Roasted cinnamon apple and pecan cake with custard. Vanilla crème brulee, winter fruits with shortbread. Sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce with ice cream. Vanilla ice cream and the last a Warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream. Yummy, yummy and what an excellent idea for tasters!

We finished with coffee at £2 each and during the meal we chose an Australian Shiraz at £13.95.  Staff were busy, friendly and we were not kept waiting.  Parking is not brilliant, we managed to get into the car park of the Highfield Hotel next door to the Restaurant which is allowed.

Cost ££££
