LWL Gold Award - Awarded April 2008 - Cost ££££

APRIL 2012 NOW UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP NEED TO RE REVIEW!

I quote from Information-Britain.co.uk "This Victorian Mansion was built in 1897 for the German industrialist Alexander Siemens with out regard to cost and was acknowledged to be the most luxurious residence along the South coast of England.  Today, Westover Hall is owned and run by a family who recognise its heritage and take great pride in its appearance and the style of personal service afforded to all.  The wealth of antique furniture, art, glass and books add to the stylish atmosphere which runs throughout to the tastefully furnished bedrooms many of which have sea views."

We visited this wonderful find to enjoy their special two course luncheon at £15 (or three courses for £20).  Included in this special menu is a free glass of wine.  For those of us who like the finer things in life Westover Hall truly fits the bill!  It is a Grade II listed mansion just a short walk from Milford-on-Sea village and has the most wonderful view of the Isle of Wight and The Needles.  Upon entering you get a great feeling of the grandeur of this lovely old house; an instant warm atmosphere generated by the most amazing series of stained glass windows and extensive oak panelling, a truly stunning location.

Our food choices were Butternut squash and vanilla soup, Carpaccio of plum tomato, mozzarella and pesto, Pressed ham hock terrine with pear chutney and homemade Beetroot marinated salmon.  All delightful and well presented.  For our main course choices, two Pan fried breast of chicken with cream of sweet pepper, one Panache of fish and noilly prat butter and lastly Confit of duck with tarragon and star anise fumet.  All served with an al dente selection of vegetables and again very well presented, reasonably sized portions and absolutely delicious!

Although there was a delicious selection of puddings we decided on another glass of wine and two had coffees.  When booking, and it was busy, ask about the Special Menu as it does change.  You will see from their website the luncheon and dinner menus vary in price but does not show a Specials Menu.  However, whatever your choice this very special venue is well worth a visit for exceptional surroundings and service.
