LWL Gold Award - Awarded December 2009 - Cost £££££

Ok I'll admit I'm biased, this is our favourite restaurant. We believe it provides peerless lunchtime value in terms of food quality anywhere in the region. The atmosphere is old fashioned Bistro, with views over a pretty courtyard garden, perfect for a summers aperitif (if you can still visualize that in these wintry days).

Debbie Egan runs a relaxed front of house with her husband confined to the tiny kitchen turning out faultless cuisine.  The menu is constantly changing with the seasons. Always a good seafood selection but seasonal meats like venison too.

We treated friends recently to the Xmas menu.  2 Courses for £15.50 or 3 for £18.50 including quality Xmas crackers, streamers etc (Normal lunchtime menu is cheaper).

The Xmas menu was extensive and had to be pre-ordered. We had the three different starters; Tian of prawns, smoked salmon and crayfish, Tiger Prawns in Thai Spices with Coriander and Coconut Pilaf and Smoked Haddock croquette with flat cap mushroom and creamed leaks. All served with a choice of homemade breads (included in the price). All delicious in their own way.

Jugs of water are provided without having to ask, and we chose a nice Chilean Merlot to accompany the food.

For our main course we ordered The Xmas Roast Turkey with accompaniments, New Forest Venison Bourguignon with Dauphinoise potato and Fillet of Bream with spring onion mash and a Dublin Bay prawn sauce. All quite different and all presented steaming on piping hot plates.

We left a little room to share 2 desserts; Praline pannacotta with exotic fruits and Chocolate Torte with white chocolate and raspberry trifle.

Please support this great local restaurant, but preferably not on a Saturday lunchtime, so we can still get a table:)
