Revisited October 2005
I wanted to meet a Romsey friend so this was the perfect venue. Happy to find that all that I wrote last time still applies including the 20% discount for seniors Mon - Friday. If anything it is even busier now, it was packed when we arrived so lucky that I had booked. Ross & Vicky & all the staff very friendly. From overheard conversations it is obvious that they have a great regular clientele, & the elderly ones obviously appreciate the help they get when needed with the steps. I enquired about wheelchair access & was told that it is difficult as it is a listed building.
Lots of info including driving instructions & news of special events on their website so check it out.

A very varied menu & a massive chalk board with daily specials. My starter (on left) was delicious; Roquefort Spinach & Baby Onion Tart. The other choice was a very spicy, Spicy Wedge Fries topped with Chilli & Cheese. We had a large glass each of Pinot Grigio. |

Our main courses: first choice (on left) from the Vegetarian menu was a Mushroom, Brie, Rocket & Filo Bundle. I made the best choice but unfortunately the photo does not do them justice, Homemade Salmon & Dill Fishcakes with a cream Herb Sauce, they were packed with fresh salmon, very tasty! Both dishes were served with a choice of potatoes & either vegetables or salad. There was no way we could manage a pudding, the portions were very generous! |

The pub has just re opened after a complete refurbishment & very smart it looks too! Warm & welcoming on a miserable day. Decor is very olde worlde, particularly liked the red walls. The loos are very smart as well!
The place was very busy, always a good sign. Its open all day from Fridays - Sundays. They have special 20% for senior citizens Mondays - Fridays.
The Landlord, Landlady & all the staff very friendly.
We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio £ 9.95. They specialise in exotic meats, e.g., ostrich steak, bison steak, kudu fillet ( no I'd never heard of it either, it's American antelope). There were many items on the chalk boards. J.I. chose a main course, Supreme Salmon in Watercress sauce, myself & SA chose 2 starters each, Cajun Prawn Kebab, Seafood Crepe, Fish Soup & Potato Skins with Chilli & Cheese. All tasty & very filling so no puds. We did have coffees which were served with a Twix bar, lovely treat! Another & unusual treat these days was that they took the food order at the table, very relaxing.

| The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head ) |
