Ok I know we were on holiday and the local vino was very gluggable but under any circumstances this restaurant deserves the high yummy factor we have given it!
SM & I were on a cruise & docked in Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala. We decided that as we were in such an exotic location we really should make the effort of taking an hour and a half coach ride to Antigua Guatemala, the ancient capital. It was well worth it, it is so pretty with the architecture of an old Spanish town. We spent ages wondering around the streets enjoying the ancient buildings but mainly the big smiles of the locals. The handmade crafts for sale in the shops are unusual and very colourful but now that I'm home do I really need a vivid orange table runner?!
Luckily we stumbled on this hotel; at first we didn't think we would get in as the area we could see, with a Marimba band playing, was obviously laid up for one of the inclusive tours but we were shown to the proper restaurant. It was under cover but the side was open looking out into a beautiful garden with a fountain and full of unusual plants. Just in front of us in a corner of the garden a girl was making fresh tortillas! An idyllic location.

One of our main courses, on left, was a kebab and the other choice, on right, was recommended so we could taste local favourites. It included re-fried beans, fried sweet potatoes, goats cheese, more guacamole and I don't know what the meat was but all our food was delicious and very freshly cooked. It was also beautifully served and they had a very efficient wine waiter who was able to help us choose a local wine. Highly recommended & if you ever find yourself in this part of the World do try this lovely restaurant! |
