Revisited February 2006

4 of us had lunch on a lovely sunny day.  It was very busy, the ambiance was good & the staff charming.  2 chose whitebait which were listed as a starter/snack, I would definitely describe as a snack, very generous portions!  The same goes for the moules in a cream sauce, large enough for a main course.  Main courses, one choice was a whole grilled Cornish plaice served with a delicious side salad & a massive portion of chips.  Another was rack of lamb and 2 chose Moroccan Lamb.  In my opinion it was undercooked & not very Moroccan, perhaps if it had been more spicy with some apricots/almonds added & served with couscous it would have been more exciting!  The 3 lamb dishes were served with roast potatoes & individual portions of vegetables.  Overall the standard of food was good apart from the lamb.  It's the place to go if you are very hungry, massive portions!  I would go again but think more carefully about my choices.  We had coffees & a bottle of Italian white.

We stopped here for a snack lunch before going dog walking!  As it was sunny we sat in the charming garden.  Inside the pub is very quaint & olde worlde as it dates back to the 15th century.  We spent a peaceful hour and a half in this rural setting but I would imagine at the weekends it would be packed.  An extensive menu & chalk board specials.  My friends had salmon pate with brown bread, very light & tasty, & I chose a jacket potato with cottage cheese& coleslaw salad.  Apparently they were short staffed which is why we had to wait 40 minutes for our food!  NB The car park gate is closed during the afternoons & we didn't se the sign warning us of this!  Luckily when we returned from our walk the kitchen staff were starting to prepare the evening menu & were able to let us out!

Cost £

Yummy Factor 6/10 but I'd give 10/10 for the scenery & the area!

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
