JI thoroughly enjoyed the very recent opening of The Glass House so she was keen for us all to meet here to do a proper review.  Upon arrival we were taken downstairs to the cellar bar which is very cosy and has lots of big squashy sofas... very inviting.  The restaurant is part of The Forest Lodge Hotel and it is obvious that a lot of refurbishment has taken place as everything looks so smart and in pristine condition!  After our usual G&T's we went upstairs to the actual restaurant which we all agreed it is a very attractive room. The crisp black table cloths and the unusual white china looked very dramatic.

We decided to eat off the 2 courses for £15 or 3 Courses for £20 menu and chose a bottle of Rose, a compromise to keep both the red and the white drinkers happy!  Only 3 choices at each course but there are far more on the evening menu, 3 courses for £30.  The service was excellent, we were looked after by the very attentive Matt who we found out is the restaurant manager. He presented us with a delicious sea food, carrot & coriander Amuse Bouche beautifully presented and accompanied by a crouton topped with sun dried tomato.

The 3 starter choices were King Prawns, roasted pimentos, lime & sweet chilli fondue.  Smoked Duck & marinated tomatoes, aged balsamic dressing and finally a Twice Baked Cheese & Pistachio Soufflé, poached sultana salad, basil puree, all very tasty, but my choice, the soufflé, was the favourite.

Again we were able to try all the mains, Cod fillet, nicoise salad, lemon coriander dressing mango salsa, Aged New Forest Sirloin caramelised shallots, tempura onions and reduced claret, Goats Cheese, Rocket & Coconut Cream Risotto walnut and beetroot salad.  The food was good but we felt could have done with some accompanying vegetables as the portions were not that generous.  We only tried two of the puds, the Apple Panacotta, poached pear & cider sorbet, see above, & the Poached Summer fruits in Champagne lime sorbet at the top of the page. We finished our meal with coffee and a home made chocolate.  The Glass House is a lovely venue and shows great potential!
