Had been wanting to visit this pub for a long time as we had had such an enjoyable meal at its sister establishment, The Bear & Ragged Staff in Michelmersh Nr. Romsey.  What a disappointment, unfortunately The Fish is not up to the same standard.

Four of us came for Sunday lunch.  When we booked were very impressed with the excellent directions we were given to find our way through Ringwood.  We had a lovely drive over from Southampton as, on a very sunny crisp Autumnal day, the forest was looking wonderful.

Obviously the pub was very busy & the bar staff were very rushed but still polite & helpful.  Its an olde worlde traditional pub & the smoking area we were sat in looked a little shabby.  Usual procedure, have to give your food order at the bar & then its served to your table.

We had two starters between us.  Whitebait, which were good, & Calamari which had crispy batter but were very rubbery in texture.  Two of us had a roast, one pork & one beef.  They were OK & very reasonable at £6.75 but didn't get excited about them!  SM had Cod in vinegar batter & chips, this was most probably the best choice as the fish was chunky & tasty.  The last choice was Liver & Bacon BUT it was served with either chips or new potatoes.  You must have mash with liver & bacon!  The gravy was very strong.  Had two bottles of House White.  Decided not to bother with puddings or coffee.
