Last time we visited Casa Bodega we were told about the forthcoming transformation, it was soon to be relaunched as The Cromwell Arms. Mark and Helen Walter happened to be there that day so we thought it about time we called in to see if the plans they had described for their pub had been put into practice. The layout is very similar but a subtle change in decor has given it more of a pub feel and will no doubt encourage casual eating especially as it is now open all day, 7 days a week, from noon. The menu reflects their desire to offer traditional pub grub but with a strong emphasis on freshly produced food. The wine list reflects Mark's training as an award winning sommelier but includes some very reasonably priced bottles for the likes of us who are not exactly wine buffs!

Our starters, L - R, from the Specials menu, Smoked duck, rocket & parmesan salad with grilled artichoke, from The Lunch & Early Dinner menu, Chicken & bacon salad with mustard dressing, and Mussels with white wine, garlic & cream. All starters on the lunch menu very reasonably priced at £3.95, all mains on that menu £7.95. Our Mains, L - R below, Cromwell Arms burger served with chilli & pineapple salsa, chunky chips & onion rings, Smoked haddock & salmon fish cakes, mixed salad, lemon butter sauce & a Minute Steak with Mushrooms, onions, garlic butter & chips. We really enjoyed everything except the steak which was a little tough. |

The steak was quickly forgotten once the puds arrived! We ordered a Strawberry Cheesecake, Homemade Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and Homemade pistachio & chocolate brownie with mango sorbet but as we had taken so long deciding we were also brought to try Homemade lemon tart with fruit coulis and Amaretto cheesecake! Heaven as you can see in the pic above on the right. They were all delicious and all £4.50.
To keep everyone happy we chose a Pinot Grigio Rose @ £15.60 a bottle and finished with coffees. A very enjoyable lunch! The Specials selection changes weekly but there is always Fish & Chips on a Friday, they also have both wines & beers of the week.
We had good service and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere so wish Mark, Helen and their team, including Chef Finn, lots of luck in their new venture.
We highly recommend AND delighted that they are offering Privilege Card Holders 10% discount on TOTAL bill all lunch & dinner times except Friday & Saturday Nights & Sunday lunch times for Card Holder + max 3 guests but not Bank Holidays and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers.
