As I was staying in the area and we have not visited the Cricketers for sometime it was agreed we would hopefully enjoy Sunday Lunch there on the 27th April.  We were not disappointed; I can report that the staff are still very friendly and attentive, the food from the chalk board is very varied and still very pleasing to the palate!  All three of us enjoyed the roast of the day a choice of Pork, Beef or Chicken.  We chose two beef and one pork.  Excellent crunchy roast potatoes, crunchy vegetables, huge Yorkshire Puds, and plenty of meat. £9.95 each.  With coffee and no pudding and just a glass of wine each - driving! - it came to £££ per head inc. tip.  Great garden for al fresco dining if we every get a Summer!!  We still advise booking early.

We were very lucky to get a table in this pretty village pub having only phoned for a reservation 4 days ahead so book early!

Very busy, as it was Sunday lunch, but it was still a relaxing atmosphere & we were made very welcome by the young, friendly & efficient staff. We met old friends & had a lot to catch up on, it was a long lunch!

Here they are very happy to start a tab, AND a waitress came to take our order, regular readers know how we enjoy not having to go to the bar to do this.

You must visit their website, good pics of the pub & garden & also sample menu.

There are extensive choices on the chalk board, hard to make a decision, also lots of fresh fish dishes.  The starters we chose, Deep fried Wedges of Brie with Cranbury Sauce, Goats Cheese in Bread Crumbs on a Bed of Leaves, Crab Cakes with Salad, & Prawns in Filo Pastry.  The favourite was the Crab, yummy!  For mains, Roast Pork & Crackling, Haddock in Crispy Beer Batter, Haddock with Mussels in a Creamy White Sauce, Lamb Steak with an Apricot & Rose Wine Sauce & Steak & Mushroom Pie.  Accompanied by loads of fresh crispy vegetables, choice of potatoes which included the most fabulous Garlic Mash!

Of course we had to sample some of the puds, its obligatory!  The Banoffe Roulade, was the yummiest but also good, Toffee Lumpy Bumpy & the Spotted Dick.  Followed with coffees.  Also had various drinks plus 2 bottles of Pinot Grigio so  thought that our bill quite reasonable at.....
