Revisited February 2006

Visited last night and received a warm welcome.  Always a busy and warm atmosphere in this pub.  Two chose lambs liver and bacon, mash etc. and two had a fish cobbler platter which consisted of smoked salmon, tuna, prawns, fillet of cod with various dressings and salad.  Both were £7.95 and were enjoyed by all. We only had two puds - lemon meringue pie and polenta with raspberry sauce £3.45 each.  Two bottles of a very nice Australian Shiraz at £10.95 a bottle and some coffee , a good evening was had by all.  £££  still  7/10 Reported by SM.

Amazingly this is our first visit to this famous & long established Southampton pub since we started the site.  It's looking good, I know the outside has just been painted as I often walk past (trying to make up for all the eating I do for your benefit!), I think the inside has also had a recent refurb.

As it was a beautiful day we sat outside & have to say that we had excellent service as plenty of very friendly staff kept a careful eye on what was going on.  Usual procedure, you order at the bar but you are then served your food at the table, someone else comes along close behind with an excellent selection of sauces & chutneys & yet another person brings the water & glasses.

Two of us chose the Chicken, Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich on bloomer bread served with mayo & seasoned chips (shown on left).  SM decided on a similar sandwich but with a filling of Honey Roast Shredded Ham & Wholegrain Mustard Mayo.  Substantial size & OK, but not an earth shattering, flavour!

We shared this choc cheesecake which was chosen off the Puddings Blackboard, needless to say I enjoyed it!

We had a couple of Spritzers, a soft drink & finished with coffees.  Their full menu looks interesting & sure that they would get  higher praise for a proper meal.  Will visit again because such a good location.

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
