During a short golfing weekend in Trouville we discovered the Hotel Restaurant Carmen in a side street and therefore much cheaper than on the front promenade.  It was so good that we went back twice and each time ate off the €16 menu which my financial advisor assures me is approx £11, for this amazingly small amount we ate three delicious courses!

The moules in cream, pernod, and fennel were the plumpest and tastiest any of us had ever eaten before.  On the second evening some Canadians were also raving about the moules!  The first evening I had fish as a main course with curd cheese and lots of chopped green herbs, very unusual.  The next day I started with a smoked salmon terrine followed by veal marengo but managed to squeeze in a tarte tatin served with crème fraiche.  I forgot to mention that on arrival you are served with an amuse bouche, an added bonus.

The restaurant makes you feel as if you are eating in a French home, I recommend you ask for the round table in the window.

On the first evening we were served by a charming waiter called Francois who spoke very good English; he has invited us to his home for a Bailey's, the restaurant didn't have any, on our next visit!  We are all looking forward to that.

The excellent wines are about £10 a bottle and the Menu du Jour changes daily, the value for money is incomparable in England.  They also have a varied a la carte and if you are ever in Trouville, I urge you to try this gem of a restaurant, we consider ourselves very lucky to have found it!
