Normally when you see £3.50 for a Carvery shown on a large
sign outside a Pub I would probably drive on past! However, on a wet
Thursday in January and all feeling the pinch money wise The Alma was where
we decided to meet. Once you have selected a table you go to the bar and
order drinks and food etc. For the Carvery you are given a ticket which you
hand to the chef before making your choice. We took one look at the queue
and thought perhaps we'd made a mistake, but fortunately we seemed to move
along quite quickly.
For £3.50 - All Day Mon - Sat and £6.50 on Sunday All
Day, the carvery is very good value. The choice of roasts were gammon,
turkey and beef. A choice of 5 vegetables, roast or new potatoes, Yorkshire
pudding, stuffing and all the trimmings. Alternatives to the Carvery are a
cold meat salad, a tuna/prawn salad both £4.50, or fish pie at £4.99 and the
vegetarian choice was £5.99. We were 6 and all had the Carvery and apart
from the beef being a little tough we all felt it was really good value and
therefore couldn't complain. As the place was very busy and the staff
friendly am sure these sort of Pubs will do very well in these credit
crunching times!!
Puddings range from £1.80 - £2.95 and coffee from £1.19 -
£2.45. The Wines were also reasonable from £7 - £9.95, not a large choice
but adequate. It's not often we go out and pay £7.19 for a roast,
glass of red, and a coffee!!
